Construction of new multi-use games area gets underway

The Friends of Lacey Green Park are very excited to announce that work on the Multi Use Games Arena, which will feature a skate and scooter play area, has begun.

Funding for the Multi Use Games Arena (M.U.G.A.) came from WREN, which a not-for-profit business that helps benefit the lives of people who live close to landfill sites by awarding grants for community, conservation and heritage projects.

The contractors are predicting it will take five weeks to complete the work, which will include relocating the start and finish of the BMX track which is already in situ.

Chairman of the Friends Group, Stuart Ogden said "We're all thrilled to see these much needed improvements start after two years of hard work getting necessary approvals and funding.

"Our vision was to create a park which caters for all members of the community from very young children through to teenagers, dog walkers and families wanting to enjoy a safe, clean park with plenty of activities for everyone to enjoy."

Work on the children's play area will start in the next few months, The Friends of Lacey Green Park are currently awaiting an official date from Cheshire East Council.

Hi John,

I'm Secretary of the Friends for Lacey Green Park Committee Group working on this project for the past two years. We are a small group of residents working voluntarily to improve Lacey Green Park for it's residents and local people.

Please let me clarify some points in response to your above comments; funding for the Multi Use Games Arena is funded by Wren who we were advised to approach by Cheshire East to submit an additional funding request as we meet the criteria of the sort of community project Wren would fund and were successful. This is in addition to the Section 106 monies already secured to improve the children's play area which has come from some of the developments you mention in your email we believe.

Therefore, yes the Section 106 funding was always there however, to access this for this specific project, we had to form the Friends Group with all necessary administrational protocols to be allocated the necessary funding to the park improvement project. This process took nearly two years but work on the MUGA will be finished within a few weeks and the children's play area will be the next development hopefully starting in the next month or so.

I hope this explanation helps and if you need any further information please email us at or go to our website wwww.laceygreenpark.btck.co.uk.

Regards,

Carli
