Stanneylands Hotel goes into administration

DSCN0619

Four hotels owned and managed by Prima Hotels have gone into administration, including The Stanneylands Hotel in Wilmslow.

Ryan Grant, Lee Causer and Catherine Williamson, of AlixPartners Services UK LLP, were appointed Joint Administrators on May 7th over The Stanneylands Hotel, Nunsmere Hall Hotel in Northwich, The Quorn Country Hotel in Leicestershire and Hellaby Hall Hotel in Rotherham.

The Joint Administrators will continue to trade the hotels while exploring all options and intend to honour existing bookings. The hotels will be operated by Legacy Hotels and Resorts Limited as part of the Administration.

Ryan Grant of AlixPartners comments: "We will continue to trade the hotels on a 'business as usual' basis and intend to honour all bookings made prior to our appointment.

"We believe the businesses are attractive to a range of potential buyers and welcome expressions of interest from third parties to acquire any or all of the sites.

"We would also like to thank the staff for their continued support and professionalism during this process."

That's so sad....Spent our wedding night there (reception was elsewhere), and have lived round the corner for 15 years now.
Surely there's enough business coming in & out of Manchester airport to keep this business going, no? Obviously not...

It's sad, but I'm all for making an opportunity out of the negatives. I live around the corner and have dined there a few times, but it has no atmosphere, so it's never somewhere to go for just a drink or a bite to eat. It is very 'old school', wonderful for functions such as weddings and funerals but it could be so incredibly popular with local people if it provided a more funky bar type theme. Time to update and bring in the new!

Shame. We had our wedding reception there in 1972 and our Ruby anniversary function in 2012.Agree with Amy that it's very old school and needs to be modernised however always found the staff to be very friendly and professional especially Eamonn and Jaques

Sad state of affairs really, a local business run by local people and employing locals, many of whom have been there for many years.
We recently held a 90th birthday party there and the staff were absolutely marvellous, very attentive, friendly and, although business focussed they gave the impression of being part of the family occasion, they wanted it to succeed and they wanted to be a part of its success. I do hope they survive in the upheaval which will undoubtedly follow.

Perhaps a new owner will be prepared to invest in its refurbishment and bring it up to dad. Its a fantastic location and has a good catchment area, but my experience of it has always been a little disappointing - it could be so much better!

Such a shame. We also spent our wedding night there in 1992. Beautiful old Cheshire building with such potential. If it was brought up to date and served good food and afternoon teas then it would be very successful. A traditional old style cocktail bar would attract desirable clientele too. If I had the money, I would do this myself.

A real shame, been to many functions here and the food has been good and the service wonderful. It does need modernising and if they discount the cost of an overnight stay they may generate more business especially with being so close to the airport. They could do with a light bites menu as well at a reasonable price which might entice people in rather than just the a la carte. Many local hotels offer cheaper accommodation with access to local restaurants and have free parking so there is plenty of competition. It is a lovely function venue with beautiful grounds, hopefully somebody will recognise it's potential and invest some money into it and keep it going.

I sincerely hope that a new buyer will be found soon. Stanneylands is a landmark of Wilmslow and they have hosted countless functions, weddings, anniversaries, wakes etc. etc.
The staff starting with Eammon is the backbone of the Hotel and the courtesy they extend to anyone - new or old customers - has been wonderful.
I wish them luck and sincerely hope that a new buyer will be found soon.
My sincerest personal thank you to all at the Stanneylands for looking after me for over 30 odd years.
