Local residents will have the choice of five candidates when they go to the polls for the General Election on Thursday, May 7th.

Candidates for the Tatton Constituency are: Stuart Hutton (UKIP), George Osborne (Conservative Party), David Pinto-Duschinsky (Labour Party), Tina Rothery (Green Party) and Gareth Wilson(Liberal Democrats).

Over the coming week will be publishing brief interviews with each of the candidates that respond to our request. To read the interviews with other candidates click on the 'General Election' tag at the bottom of the article.

Stuart Hutton is the UKIP Parliamentary Candidate for Tatton Constituency. He represents Nantwich South on Nantwich Town Council.

Stuart left the Conservative Party after 10 years of membership to join UKIP in 2011 because he believes "the set of principles and policies promoted by UKIP best serve the interests and views of those who elected me in 2011".

After 15 years working around the world as a Chartered Engineer, he now runs a small engineering company in Cheshire, where he lives with his wife and two young children.

Speaking about why he is standing as the UKIP candidate for the Tatton Constituency, Stuart said "I know the importance of rebalancing our economy to producing things of value, and I understand how this can be achieved with sustainable supply-side economic reform. I am especially proud of UKIPs policy of removing tuition fees for those studying Science, Technology or Medical degrees to support our Manufacturing Industry and NHS."

He added "As a Councillor for Nantwich, I know the importance of giving control over local matters to local people – the best custodians of our towns and countryside are those that live there. I believe in encouraging, energising and equipping all our young people to reach their full potential for the benefit of everyone in our society, and actively support this by giving talks in schools. We progress as a society, but it is individuals that move us, inspire us, and do great things.

"I firmly believe that with more engineers like myself in Parliament, with better understanding technology and the needs of industry, we'd get sensible decisions, a stronger economy, better public services and an infrastructure fit for a the 21st Century."

Councillor for Nantwich, MP for Tatton, which area is his priority?

Hi Sally you couldn't be both so in the unlikely event Mr Hutton was elected he would have to stand down as a councillor (or it maybe that he would have been up for re-election anyway) so there would be no conflict of priorities. Before he was elected George O had nothing at all do with Tatton, nor Martin Bell before him, so to be fair Mr Hutton is at least reasonably local in coming from a neighbouring constituency.
