It's no tail - Handforth Station goes Manx

Handforth IOM Sign

The Isle of Man boasts a unique mix of rail modes with a steam railway, a tram-style electric railway, Snaefell Mountain Railway and a horse-drawn tramway on the promenade at Douglas. Now a small corner of Cheshire proudly carries the Manx colours as Handforth Station has added to its eclectic collection of 'foreign' station signs.

A new sign, displayed proudly by the Wilmslow-bound platform boasts Manx transport colours. The Handforth titles are displayed in English and Manx ("Stashoon Aah Hannah"). It joins signs depicting the branding of Irish, French, Dutch and German railway companies on the "Platform for Art" created by Friends of Handforth Station.

Ian Longwoth, Director of Isle of Man Transport, said: 'We were delighted to assist the Friends of Handforth Station to expand their collection of foreign nameboards by supplying an Isle of Man sign to go on the platform. It helps spread the word about the Island's unrivalled network of heritage railways and will be a talking point for any Island residents or visitors when they spot it.'

Friends of Handforth Station is a community group formed in 1996 to promote the railway station as a gateway the village. New members are welcome - please call 01625 524123 for further details or visit handorthstation.org.uk
