Foodie fest goes down a treat

The first ever Wilmslow Food & Drink Week has been hailed a great success with many of the events selling out.

Restaurants, cafes, pubs, retailers and chefs hosted a range of special events throughout the week from beer and wine tastings to a Man V Food competition and talks on cheese making to book signings.

The week long event was organised by Wilmslow Business Group to celebrate everything to do with eating and drinking that is on offer in our town and it came to a spectacular close on Saturday 21st March with blue skies over the specially extended Artisan Market.

Denise Valente of the Wilmslow Artisan Market said "Being the grand finale to Wilmslow Food Drink Week meant we had a fabulous opportunity to really grasp the 'festival' atmosphere and incorporate some exciting additions to our event in keeping with the theme. We invited Wilmslow based restaurants and businesses to demonstrate in the 'Chef's Kitchen' which was a real hit with the visitors."

Visitors also had the chance to see the very impressive cakes entered by Wilmslow High School students into their Cake Off Competition which James Wheeler won with his wonderful burger inspired cakes.

Catherine Mackenzie, Chairman of Wilmslow Business Group, said "It's been a great week. I hope that residents and businesses have enjoyed getting into Wilmslow and enjoying all that our town has to offer. I certainly ate my way round town! Our busy events team is now focusing on our next event – the Wilmslow Art Trail which will take place in 22 venues around Wilmslow between Friday 5th and Sunday 7th June."

Sorry! But am I the only Wilmslow resident who, whilst aware of the Food and Drink week, never saw anything advertised locally? No restaurants, pubs etc showing special menus or activities, where did this event take place?
I would have loved to have taken part!!
Looks like not enough advertising of what was happening and where!!

Hello Meryl - I'm sorry to hear that you weren't aware of the event. We promoted it using a variety of methods. Several articles were published on this site in the months leading up to the event, as well as in the local paper, via the High School and elsewhere. Every participating venue had a poster in their window and they gave out programmes (5,000 in total) which detailed all of the events and discounts. We also gave out flyers (a further 5,000) via the Artisan Market in February and through other outlets. Our next event is the Wilmslow Art Trail which is 5-7 June at venues all over the town - keep your eyes peeled on Wilmslow.co.uk for details soon.

I saw so many posters and banners because of this I then visited a fair few of the places that were participating and had a great time at each one Chilli banana, Cau, stolen lamb and revolution ( failing the man v food ) to name a few.
Looking forward to the next event the town organises
