Motorists are warned to expect delays as Station Road will be closed for a week to enable Network Rail to carry out works to the bridge, which should put an end to the mess caused by pigeons.

Work will commence on Monday, 16th March, to install netting to the underside of the bridge to remove the presence of pigeons. Additional work will include adding chevrons to the bridge and removing overgrown vegetation.

It is anticipated that the work will take place from Monday 16th March to Friday 20th March between 8am and 4.30pm.

Councillor, Rod Menlove said 'We had netting installed several years ago but when the platforms were extended it was torn and not repaired. I have pressed for re-netting at our regular liaison meetings with Network Rail and am pleased that at last we have a success.

"I am ensuring that the footway will be cleaned thoroughly after the works are completed.

"This will be yet another improvement to this main gateway in to Wilmslow adding to the replanting of the station frontage, the resurfaced road and the micro-asphalting of the footway."

Pedestrian access to any premises situated within the temporary closure will be maintained at all times, along with access for emergency and residents vehicles where possible.

The alternative route will be via: Birrell Way A34, Bollin Valley Link A538, Bollin Valley Roundabout A34, Hough Lane A5102, Hough Lane Roundabout A538, Macclesfield Road, Manchester Road A538/B5166, Manchester Road Roundabout A538, Prestbury Road A538, Station Road, Thorngrove Roundabout A34.

I walked under that bridge this morning and while there is visible mesh that they have installed, it doesn't seem to have had any effect, there are still loads of pigeons around....
