Officers from Wilmslow Neighbourhood Police Unit, supported by Crime Reduction Officer Alison Gabbott, delivered some training for retailers on Handforth Dean Retail Park this week.

Thirty-eight managers and supervisors attended the seminars on Wednesday, 25th February as part of a crackdown on acquisitive crime.

Focusing on reducing retail crime, the attendees shared their best practice and took steps to continue to improve their co-ordinated approach to reducing crime incidents.

Inspector Alan Fairclough said: "Over recent weeks, Cheshire Police have provided targeted patrols around the Handforth Retail Park in support of our retail partners. The site is having an increase in CCTV cameras − which have been used in support of our own ANPR cameras and leading to arrests, cars being seized and people being prosecuted.

"Todays training, is the ongoing drive by the retailers to increase customer & staff safety − and to make the stores a hard place to commit crime.

"Criminals who are coming onto the park now have a greater chance than ever of their registrations being read by ANPR − leading to them being arrested."

A good initiative - I just wonder whether all the police cars will still be there when rubbish and the remains of someones driveway will be tipped everywhere as frequently happens.
