Police issue 'yellow cards' for anti social behaviour

PADDOCK

Local residents are continuing to report incidents of anti social behaviour in The Paddock area of Handforth.

Police officers are currently working with residents, crime reduction officers and youth group leaders to tackle this issue. They are also asking people to report any ASB they witness at the time, so that officers can be pro-active in their approach.

Sgt Andy Miller said "Local PCSO's have been engaging with both residents and young groups in the area to tackle this issue head on. We have been issuing 'yellow cards' to the youths who have been acting anti social and will be working closely with crime reduction officers, youth group leaders and residents as we continue to reduce this type of behaviour."

Additionally, a number of local youths are currently causing issues for businesses, the High School and local residents due to their anti social behaviour in the town centre, particularly at Wilmslow Leisure Centre.

Sgt Miller added "Police will be dealing with these youths firmly and gathering information and statements from people who have been affected with a view to going to securing Criminal Behaviour Orders against the worst offenders."

There is normally a limit of 3 yellow cards/warning letters within a six month period before any further preventative or formal action is considered.

Where are the parents of these thugs who are unable to behave in a socially acceptable manner. Perhaps their benefits should be reduced as a penalty for failing to control their children.

Debra, why are you saying that the parents of the children taking part in anti social behaviour must must be on benefits !

Yellow cards! I've heard it all now. The usual anything not to tackle the problem.

Present consequences are ineffective if the problem is ongoing. Six months is far too long. One warning and then community service litter picking is appropriate. Do sufficient hours and use them to help gain a Duke of Edinburgh award. Win win!

The parents may or may not be on benefits but they are failing in parenting their children. Parents should know where their children are - they are in charge! If they don't behave then they should be grounded, yes you will be unpopular but they will think twice before misbehaving again. I appreciate that being a parent is hard, I had 3 children, but very rewarding when they grow up to be pleasant, sociable law-abiding adults with a respect for their home area and its inhabitants.

Have to say that this shopping area was always going to attract anti -social behaviour because of its design. That is now made worse by the fact that many of the shops are empty. The back of the shops - I will no longer park there. The other side of the road the shops are thriving. They need to do the same as Hale and demolish the lot and bring the shops to the front with better quality flats above. Good carpark at back and there would still be room for extra housing. The fact is that they allowed a ghetto to be created and that needs to go.
