Children plead "Please clean up after your dog"

Two Wilmslow schoolchildren are appealing to inconsiderate dog owners to clean up after their animals.

Maddie, 8, and Jamie, 6, have both made posters which they are going to put up on the trees directly outside their house in an attempt to make selfish dog owners think about their actions when they let their dogs foul on the pavement and neglect to pick it up.

Their mum Fiona McCarthy said "We live on Gravel Lane and the amount of dog mess around at the moment is just shocking. We come out of our house almost daily to piles of it and as we live so near to the entrance of Ashdene Primary School children are standing in it constantly."

Fiona added that a lot of her friends may get their children to make posters as well as "everyone agrees it is a growing and very unpleasant issue!"

I really am very disappointed with this. Does no one realise how important dog owners are - especially if they also own a four by four which means they can park where they want. It is their right to take their dog wherever they want and for it to **** wherever it wants.

The same happens where I live . Just off Strawberry lane unfortunately I don't have children to put up posters. What is the answer ?

As an actual Cheshire housewife, mum to 2 children & a dog (not owning a 4 x4), I can empathize with these children. I always pick up after my dog but very frequently see dog mess on various pavements in Wilmslow. It's time the Council tackled the issue by sending some people watchers out to issue some fines!!! I could point them in the direction of several problem areas!!!

Well done Maddie and Jamie! I hope that these careless dog owners take notice and pick up after their dogs. The amount of dog dirt on Gravel Lane, Moor Lane and surrounding roads in absolutely disgraceful. Just because you walk your dog in the dark doesn't mean you can let it crap all over the pavement. Not only is it disgusting but harmful too. There is also a lack of bins to put poo bags in, is it possible to get a few out around the area?

Fantastic Maddie and Jamie. I am glad this issue is raised again. We cannot walk to the common without stepping in or avoiding dog dirt. And more recently have seen filled dog poo bags hung on branches there. If you actually go to the trouble of picking it up why on earth hang it in a tree? I have removed dog dirt from the pavement outside my house on two occasions recently. This is definately an issue that needs highlighting.

Great initiative Maddie & Jamie.
Maybe WTC or Cllr McNulty will provide you with a spray can of 'Dayglow pink' paint with which to highlight any 'deposits' you find?
There should not be need for local pooper bins, to be emptied at additional C taxpayer expense, just put bag in black (landfill) wheelie when you get home.
Discarding pooper bags on twigs, or anywhere, could be construed as 'fly tipping', with associated penalties. (H&S).

Will done Maddie & Jamie and shame on the irresponsible dog owners who fail to pick up.Thankfully these people are the exception as ALL the dog owners that I know, including myself, always pick up and dispose as they should.
With regard to poo bags hanging from branches etc.I think you will find that this is done when people do circular walks with their dogs and are removed then the walkers are leaving

I agree that many of the footpaths are the same all over Wilmslow. It is the minority of dog owners that spoil it for everyone. The council removed the dog waste bin from near us and replaced it with a normal waste bin, but it is well used. I might make some posters to try to stop the selfish parents of a nearby primary school from parking on the footpaths thereby forcing parents with prams and any pedestrians, many of which are elderly, to have to walk on the road. I have spoken to the school but they choose to ignore it as long as their fancy car driving parents are happy they don't care about the residents. Sorry to digress.....

I wish John was right about people collecting their poo bags at the end of their walk. Unfortunately these bags are among the most prolific litter the volunteers of Wilmslow Clean team collect. We are talking to the council about extra bins in some places but as
Dave says why not just take the bag home? Of course this applies to all forms of litter!
Maddie and Jamie are doing a great job drawing attention to this.
