Plans for hotel on site of airport parking business

Planning permission is being sought to demolish a dwelling and associated outbuildings in the Styal Conservation Area and replace them with a hotel.

The proposal is to replace Lode Hill, where the applicant currently lives and runs an airport car parking business, with a 35 bedroom hotel. The scheme also includes associated facilities, 37 car parking spaces, landscaped grounds, a new driveway, boundary enhancement measures and gated access at the 1.7 hectares off Altrincham Road in Styal.

Additionally areas of hardstanding used for the commercial parking of cars would be removed from the site, which lies within Styal Conservation Area, the North Cheshire Green Belt and also within a designated Area of Special County Value.

The design and access statement submitted with this application concludes "The view is taken that the proposal before the Council is an opportunity to remove a commercial activity from the Application Site which has a detrimental effect on the Green Belt, Styal Conservation Area and an Area of Special Landscape Value.

"What will replace it will be a small quality hotel which would represent a visual enhancement to the surrounding environment, compliment the tourist asset of Quarry Bank Mill close by and introduce further opportunities for jobs for residents of Styal village."

The plans and information about the history of this site can be viewed on the Cheshire East Council website by searching for planning reference 15/0283M. The deadline for submitting comments is 25th February and a decision is expected to be made by 27th April.
