Lighting shop closes after 5 years

52aldrd

A lighting shop has decided not to renew their lease after five years of trading in Wilmslow.

The Lighthaus has closed their showroom at 54 Alderley Road and moved the business to Hale, where it will share its new home with their sister company Danseal, which supplies trade customers with lighting solutions and ironmongery.

HCA International, who opened a diagnostic and treatment centre for private patients at 52 Alderley Road last year, has submitted a planning application for the change of use of the ground floor of 54 Alderley Road.

They have applied to change the use to dual/alternative use for continued class A1 retail or class D1 medical consulting and diagnostics.

The application is also for the change of use of the first and second floors of 56 Alderley Road to dual/alternative use for continued class B1a offices or class D1 medical consulting and diagnostics use.

The plans can be viewed on the Cheshire East Council website by searching for planning reference 14/5851M. The last date for submitting comments is 9th February and a decision is expected to be made by 16th February.

The Planning Committee of Wilmslow Town Council discussed this application at their meeting on Monday, 26th January, and raised no objections.

And is anyone really surprised!! Over the top pricing - yet another shop thinking residents in Wilmslow have no idea what goods actually cost!

Every cloud has a silver lining. It looks like the landlord wanted the medical people to use these premises and may have priced the lease accordingly. Indeed it has probably been on the cards for some time. Medical consulting rooms will bring footfall and should be welcomed as part of a mixed use retail environment.

High quality lighting can be surprisingly expensive and there will always be a demand for it. Unlike some high-end shops the staff here were helpful and friendly, although I didn't purchase they had some sound advice for me when I popped in a couple of years ago. I hope the shop does well in Hale and no staff have lost their jobs.
