Man punched in the face during newsagent robbery

Staff were left shaken after a violent robbery at a newsagents on Chapel Lane.

A group of men entered McColl's at 9pm on Thursday, 15th January, and assaulted a staff member by punching him in the face.

They also threatened other staff members before making off with a quantity of cash and cigarettes.

Witnesses report that between three and five men who spoke with Liverpool accents, dressed in dark clothing with their faces covered, took part in the robbery.

Detective Constable Tim Humpage, said: "This was a distressing ordeal for the victims who has been left shook up by the robbery. We are now appealing for anyone who may be able to help us trace the men involved and bring them to justice."

Police are now appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time and may have seen anything to contact them.
