'Love Wilmslow, Love our Planet' is the Valentine's Day message which the town's churches and ecology group are promoting for a February 14th with a difference.

On Saturday February 14th members of Churches Together in Wilmslow and Transition Wilmslow are organizing a public meeting and workshops at Wilmslow Guild's premises in Bourne Street.

In the morning, guest speaker Paul Allen, from the Centre for Alternative Technology in Wales, will explore how we have changed our use of energy over the past centuries. As one of those responsible for the 'Zero Carbon Britain' project he will consider the impact our energy use is having on the planet.

The Revd Kirsty Thorpe from Churches Together in Wilmslow said: "We hope that as people learn more about the effects of our energy use they will see how important it is to take action together to protect our planet. The churches are keen to work with others, far and near, so we can become better neighbours and take more care of our environment."

Andrew Backhouse of Wilmslow Quakers and Transition Wilmslow added "The churches are happy to run this event with Transition Wilmslow because this group of local people is addressing how we can live more sustainably and improve our community. There is good work being done by individuals and groups in Wilmslow already and we can hear about and celebrate this."

The meeting will start with coffee at 9.45am and includes a light lunch. The afternoon will be full of hands on activities for a variety of ages, including children and young people, with a skill share from 1.30 – 3.30pm.

Churches Together in Wilmslow includes: St Bartholomew's and St Anne's Parish churches; the Quaker Meeting; Wilmslow Methodist Church; Wilmslow United Reformed Church; Dean Row Unitarian Chapel; St Teresa's Roman Catholic Church and Wilmslow LifeChurch.

Transition Wilmslow is a local community group which promotes sustainable living and a better community for all by things such as energy saving, working towards zero carbon Britain, and improving the local environment.
