Boxes filled with toys to bring Christmas cheer

Members of the Wilmslow Dean Rotary Club have once again risen to the challenge of distributing toys to local charities in good time for Christmas.

The Rotary 'Rota-Toy' box scheme has been collecting both new and pre-loved toys since the beginning of November, which have been donated by local schools and nurseries.

They have been inundated with requests for support and to date they have distributed toys to Hampers of Hope, The Together Trust, Wilmslow Health Visitors, Oakenclough Children's Centre, The Salvation Army and Cheshire East Social Services.

Major David Murray from The Salvation Army said: "Thank you Rotarians of Wilmslow Dean for the gift of toys, they will make such a difference to the children, not just at Christmas but also throughout the year."

Rotarian Geoff Shelmerdine, who set up the scheme, said: "We are indebted to the schools and nurseries for their very kind support and donations to our 'Rota-Toy' box scheme which has grown like topsy over the past two years. It is a sad sign of the times that we have distributed in excess of 600 boxes of toys this year for those less fortunate children in our local community.

"As Rotarians, we work hard to support our local community and whilst it is heartbreaking to witness poverty, there is a great sense of pride in that we have in our small way managed to help those in need and put a smile on their faces again.

"As our Rota-Toy box states on the lid, 'A box full of smiles from a child to a child'."
