Handforth gym, set to open next week, hit by arson attack

Police are appealing for information following an arson attack in Handforth.

Officers from Wilmslow CID are currently investigating a suspicious fire which occurred at the Lifestyle Fitness Centre on Epsom Avenue, which was due to open on Monday, 22nd December.

At around 2am this morning (Friday 19th December) police were notified of the incident by Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service.

Firefighters were called to the scene at 1.12am and used a covering jet to extinguish the fire on the first floor of a gym studio.

There were no injuries as a result of the incident.

Police remain at the scene to establish the circumstances surrounding the fire and are treating the incident as arson.

A spokesperson for Competition Line, the family run business which owns Lifestyle Fitness Centre, said "Unfortunately due to an arson attack in the early hours of this morning, Lifestyle Fitness Handforth will not open this weekend.

"We are assessing the damage and will keep you up-to-date over the weekend about when we can officially open the club."
