Wilmslow songwriter donates proceeds to children's hospice

Liam McClair performs charity single Time With You at Francis House Children's Hospice gala charity ball 5.12.14

A single by local artist and songwriter Liam McClair from Wilmslow, is the new music track to accompany a charity video by Didsbury based Francis House Children's Hospice.

The song 'Time With You', was written and recorded by 23-year-old Liam McClair back in September 2013 and is now available to download, with all proceeds going to Francis House.

Liam said: "I'd released my first EP 'How' in June and later decided to put the song online to gauge reaction. A year later and Francis House got in touch, it's amazing that the song now being put to good use and in such a positive way."

Staff at the hospice became aware of Liam's musical talents after he played at Jazz on the Lawn fundraising concert in the garden of Wilmslow resident Jill Kimber. The charity was looking for a new piece of music to accompany their fundraising video.

A spokesperson for Francis House said: "The acoustic guitar track with lyrics including "I don't spend my time with you, I savour it," and "there's not much I'd rather do, than stay by your side," proved the perfect fit for our hospice. When life is short it needs to be of the highest quality. We hope lots of people will download the song and show their support."

The 14 bedroom hospice provides respite care to over 370 sick children, teenagers and young adults with a short life expectancy, as well as providing support and friendship for the whole family.

The charity's video which includes interviews with families that rely on the Didsbury based hospice, some for many years, can be viewed on the Francis House website.

Bob Dylan fan Liam explained: "The inspiration for 'Time With You' came as I was thinking about how we say we 'spend' time. It seemed fleeting to 'spend' time in the same way that we spend money and from there I thought of the phrase "'I don't spend my time with you, I savour it," and from there the song was written around that theme,

"It explores how you would choose to share the time with someone you really care about. Now the words are all the more poignant for families of children with life shortening conditions, the time they spend together is even more precious."

The single is available to download for 99p from all good download sites including Google Play, Amazon MP3 and iTunes. All proceeds will go to Francis House.

When he's not performing, Liam is a football coach at Primary Schools in Wilmslow.

An injury put an end to his dreams of becoming a professional football player following in the footsteps of his father, Manchester United legend Brain McClair, after being signed to Manchester United youth academy.

The hospice needs over £3.6 million in charitable donations to continue to provide its services supporting children, teenagers and young adults with life-limiting conditions and their families from all across the north west of England.
