Wilmslow Town Council has a second non-Conservative member following this week's election for a new councillor to represent the Wilmslow East Ward.

The Residents of Wilmslow (RoW) candidate David Jefferay won the election on Thursday, 13th November, with 64.5% of the vote - making him the second politically independent voice on the council which also has 13 Conservative members.

He received 649 votes compared with 357 received by the Conservative candidate Rod Menlove. There were four spoiled votes and the turnout was 32%.

David Jefferay has lived most of his life in Wilmslow, attending Lindow Primary School and Wilmslow High School before joining AstraZeneca (then ICI) Pharmaceuticals in Macclesfield as an apprentice. He runs his own business and volunteers at the Wilmslow Animal Sanctuary in his spare time.

David Jefferay said "We are obviously delighted with the result and I look forward to joining the town council and representing the residents of Wilmslow East.

"I'd like to thank everyone who voted for me, the Residents of Wilmslow group for the support and everyone else who helped with the campaign.

"I'd also like to thank Councillor Menlove for the well fought contest and I look forward to working with him in his capacity as Cheshire East councillor."

We will update the article as soon as we receive details of the number of votes cast.

Congratulations David. This is another warning shot to the Conservatives. Do mess with the Green Belt, and listen to the wishes of the electorate.

Congratulations David,.....as you have alluded to in your previous comments this is not about party politics its merely a common sense approach representing residents whose views are being consistently ignored by elected officials.

Well done David, - you are exactly what the town council needs, - a self- made man who understands his personal and collective responsibilities.

Congratulations David. At last Wilmslow is creeping towards a more balanced council. I've known David a long time and know he will take his role seriously.

Well done voters. Congratulations RoW.
Wilmslow herald in a new dawn in politics one in which the taxpayer has the final decision on what happens where they live. Do not rest on your laurels. Next May vote in the candidates that care about what happens here not in Crewe and Nantwich.

Fantastic result well done David. A good turnout for a Town Council ballot too. Council needs more people with leadership qualities, not just party followers.

Congrats David.
This was always going to happen after the Greenbelt invasion.
If there was one issue that convinced residents that 'local democracy' did not exist that was it.
Digging up green fields before exhausting every brownfield site doesn't make sense to anyone but that's what's about to happen.

Open farmland at Adlington Road and Fence Avenue in Macclesfield will be destroyed while ugly eyesores like RH Stevens old transport yard remain untouched.
Time for change.
