Wilmslow High to host First World War Centenary Exhibition

Wilmslow High School is holding a special event this week to mark one hundred years since the outbreak of the First World War.

To commemorate this historic milestone they will be holding a community event on Saturday, 8th November, inviting people to reflect upon World War 1 and the role Wilmslow playes within it.

The First World War Centenary Exhibition will include a range of artefacts and memorabilia, drama and musical performance and work by students from Wilmslow High School and local primary schools.

History teacher Wesley Royle said "Wilmslow High School has decided to organise an exhibition to commemorate the important milestone of one hundred years since the outbreak of World War I. Often what you hear about the First World War revolves around statistics, details of military strategy and events in faraway places.

"Whilst all very important, the key aims of this exhibition are of reflection and remembrance, with a focus on the stories of individuals and the impact the War had on the local area."

The event, which has been organised in association with Wilmslow Green Room, The British Legion, Manchester Archives and Wilmslow Historical Society, will take place from 10am to 1pm. Refreshments will be available in the school cafe.

This was a wonderful event, and a credit to those who planned and held the event.

I also went to this. Found it quite moving and I was shown how to get details of a relative who lost his life during WW1.
Very impressed.
