Teenager marks birthday with charity skydive

Having recently turned eighteen, a sixth form pupil at Wilmslow High School jumped out of a plane at 11,000ft to raise money for Dementia UK.

Holly Clarke did the charity skydive with her dad Simon at Black Knights Parachute Centre in Lancaster on October 5th.

She explained "We decided to do a skydive because it was my 18th birthday in September and my dad and I had always planned on doing one for my 18th birthday. After my grandpa, Doug, was diagnosed with dementia several years ago, we decided to use this opportunity to raise money for Dementia UK, as this charity does some fantastic work and is very close to our hearts.

"We jumped from the plane above the clouds at 11,000ft, free falling for 6,000ft at 120mph before the parachute deployed and we parachuted the last 5,000ft back towards the ground. The free fall took about 30 seconds and the parachuting lasted about 8 minutes - the views were incredible, you could see for miles - you could even see Blackpool Tower while we were falling."

Holly added "The skydive was amazing, there is no feeling like falling through the clouds at 120mph. Although it was a very nerve wracking experience, it was well worth it - I am already planning my next jump!"

So far they have raised £1470. If you would like to support Holly make a donation to Dementia UK you can do so via her fundraising page.
