Older people are invited to attend a free event on Colshaw Farm aimed at keeping them health and well over the winter months.

The Health MOTs organised by Snow Angels will offer a range of information and services including flu jabs by the local health centre, blood pressure checks, advice on heating costs, housing information and much more.

There will be plenty of time to browse the stalls from organisations like Carers4All, Citizens Advice Bureau, Riverside Housing, Alzheimer's Association and Stroke Association plus a chance to win a 'Healthy Hamper' in Age UK's raffle.

Cheshire East Council will also be providing information on their initiatives aimed at supporting older people in the district, free refreshments will be on offer and visitors will have the chance to find out more about the Snow Angels Project.

The event is taking place on Thursday, 16th October, at the Open Arms Youth Centre, Howty Close, Wilmslow, from 1pm to 4pm.

Snow Angels Colshaw Farm is supported by People's Health Trust, using money raised by HealthReward through the Health Lottery.

They are looking to recruit local volunteers to support older and vulnerable people on Colshaw Farm when they are unable to leave their property. The activities could include: dog walking, gardening, shopping, weekly social visits or weekly telephone calls.

In addition there will be activities specifically aimed at assisting during cold weather such as snow and ice clearing of paths and driveways, flooding clean up and gritting pavements.

It would have been better if this was a free event situated in the centre of Wilmslow at the Leisure Centre. Old people are old people whether they live on or near Colshaw Farm or not. The Leisure Centre is accessible to all by bus.
