Brownies decorate the church for Harvest Festival

A local Brownie pack decided that we wanted to help decorate St Annes Church for the Harvest Festival on Sunday, 5th October, using hula hoops decorated with items associated with harvest.

The 10th Wilmslow St Annes Brownies were very busy for two weeks beforehand, painting leaves, fish, lobsters, making corn dollies, threading conkers on string, collecting tins and writing out the words of harvest hymns before putting it all together to make four spectacular hoops to hang in church.

Assistant Brownie Leader Meryl Spencer commented "Snowy Owl and I risked life and limb hanging them up in church, as of course the hook was just beyond our reach, but with ladders and a long brush we managed it. Brownies (and leaders) are always resourceful!

She added "On the morning of our Harvest Festival the church looked lovely, the Brownies were very smart and busy handing out books, reading the lesson and taking collection. When the vicar commented on the Brownies contribution to the decoration there was a spontaneous round of applause."

As well as making decorations for church the Brownies also brought tins and packets of suitable foods to be used by Wilmslow Food Friends.
