Ideas wanted for youth project

A youth group which was set up last year to support and promote youth activities in the area is looking to plan a project for young people living in Wilmslow, Handforth and Alderley Edge.

SK9 Group was created to reviewing grant applications from youth groups and direct funding to youth projects. It is is funded by Wilmslow Town Council, who ringed fenced £25,000 of their 2013/14 precept budget, and Handforth Parish Council who allocated £10,000.

Joe McBride explained "At the moment, we're looking to begin planning a project for young people ourselves, instead of people coming to us for funding. Whilst the funding element will still very much be a crucial part of the group's aims, we feel we're ready to take on our own project.

"To begin with, we're conducting a survey of young people to find out what they really want, in terms of youth Clubs, provision and places in town. We're aware that lots of young people are drawn towards socialising around particular areas, such as the Leisure Centre, or The Carrs. We're keen to find out what people want and then begin the process of trying to make those ideas become reality."

The SK9 Group would like young people to complete their online survey online, which is only ten questions long, to help them gather feedback on what young people are looking for.
