Charity abseil in memory of baby girls

abseil

A Handforth mother abseiled down the Bell Tower at the Trafford Centre last weekend in memory of her baby girl Chloe who she sadly lost nearly two years ago.

Liz Sillitoe, of Marlow Drive, completed the charity abseil with her friend Paula Clarke from Heaton Mersey, who also lost her baby Isla. Dressed as fairies they raised over £2,500 towards a new counselling service at St Mary's Hospital in Manchester. The new service will support parents with difficult pregnancies, poorly babies and those whose babies sadly don't survive.

Liz explained "Just under two years ago I delivered my twin girls at St Mary's Hospital in Manchester. They were born very prematurely after developing twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome. Holly had a 9 week stay in the NICU before coming home but sadly her twin sister Chloe passed away 5 days after they was born.

"My friendship with Paula grew from our shared experience at St Mary's where her baby daughter Isla was also treated until she passed away in January 2013. We both quickly learnt the importance of having someone to talk to who understands your unique experience in what can only be described as the most difficult and challenging time of our lives. The staff at St Mary's were amazing and have continued to be whenever we have needed it. We wanted to give something back and help support other families who experience such tragedies."

Liz added "The abseil was scary but exhilarating and it was great to do something to remember Chloe and Isla and give their siblings Zac, Holly, Toby and Freya something to chuckle at as they watched their mummies fluttering down the side of the Trafford centre dressed as fairies!"
