Cheshire East Council announces £5m savings

Cheshire East Council has announced today that they have made savings of £5 million.

Council leader Councillor Michael Jones said: "This is fantastic news and once again demonstrates our commitment to making savings, whilst maintaining services.

"Predictions are that we expect to be in a position to continue along this path well into the next financial year 2015/16."

Reductions have been achieved in management costs, with 19% at top tier level and 22% in the middle tier.

At its meeting on Thursday, the Corporate Overview and Scrutiny Committee will hear that the outcomes of a Management Review delivered a 'significant overall reduction' in the numbers of management posts, whilst allowing for necessary increased capacity in priority areas such as economic growth and social care.

The review rationalised posts across several grades from senior management positions to frontline team leaders and supervisors.

Council Leader Councillor Michael Jones said: "This is the strongest financial position we have been in since Cheshire East was formed and enables us to stick to our commitment to keep costs down and providing maximum value for money.

"It also proves that as an authority we are true to our word when we say that we put the residents and businesses of Cheshire East first and foremost."

Councillor Jones you are far from maintaining services at a level we in the voting community consider acceptable. Cheshire East Council have borrowed millions to fund its whimsical project agenda which could just as easily crash and burn than conjure any profit that would benefit the council tax payers.

Maybe some of it can be spent on those who need it most.

Ahem! How is the overdraft Cllr Jones? Save £5million but spend £10million perhaps. What is the nett saving vs 2013/2014?
This is half of the story........

They are incapable of running highways, need to get someone who can map read for diversions, which roads to close, not cause traffic chaos.

When we were persuaded to give up Macc Council we were promised large economies of scale and plenty of savings. If that had been achieved then this magic number would not have been possible even if it is true. Come on voters of Bunbury - help us all out!
