BP applies for licence to sell alcohol

m&s

BP Oil has applied to Cheshire East Council for a premises licence for their petrol station on Alderley Road.

They have applied for permission to sell alcohol from 6am to 11pm seven days a week at the premises, referred to as Wilmslow Connect.

The petrol station on Alderley Road is currently closed whilst the site is redeveloped. Works include a new sales building which will increase in size from 80 sqm to 225 sqm and house a M&S Simply Food store selling between 600 and 800 products.

The scheme also includes a new canopy, fuel pumps, storage tanks, minor boundary treatments and new car parking arrangements to provide additional customer parking spaces. The car wash will be removed.

The new petrol station and Simply Food store are expected to open sometime in November and create 20 new jobs.

The plans can be viewed on the Cheshire East Council website by searching for planning reference 14/1693M.

Any person wishing to make representation in relation to the licence application may do so in writing by 16th September 2014 to: The Licensing Section, Cheshire East Council, Municipal Buildings, Earle Street, Crewe, CW1 2BJ.

This should be a NO, but when does C E take any notice !

Why should it be a no? They are creating 20 new jobs and they are a reputable company, setting up a small supermarket. I cant see any issues with them having a licence. Its not as if they are having parties on the forecourt is it? Tescos right over the road has a licence, so i dont see what the difference is Trevor??

So they got their planning permission and then put in for this. Of course it should be a no. That whole area is screened by hedging from the main road and has the leisure centre field opposite. You can see that this will become a "no go area" for decent people once the dark nights arrive. Pity the poor people in the flats too.

What's your rationale for a rejection this time Trevor ?

Jackie - The tesco express across the road sells alcohol. Please enlighten me as to why this application should be rejected?

It's the level of noise as cars pull up to not just for petrol , but small items from M&S as it's going get a lot of traffic and it's residential area of Parkway and some of broadway which will be affected. Perhaps the petrol station can stay open until 11pm but not the M&S ,
We need to work with local people and residents of these areas who pay the rates .

Alcohol should not be sold in any petrol station - alcohol and vehicles don't mix

I agree with Mark - 20 Jobs for the area and Tesco's and what was th sports bar across the road - I cannot see what the objection should be ! Looking forward to M&S.

I dont think it matters if petrol stations sell alcohol.... most people drive to a supermarket to buy it anyway. But why do we need alcohol there.... no reason unless your a dim wit who didnt realise you could buy it cheaper at the big supermarket or a lazy dim wit who couldnt be bothered to go to the supermarket at all. Both of which are not to be proud of!!

Trevor - do you drive to a supermarket? Even if you don't, most people do and may well purchase alcohol in their weekly shop. Should we stop this too?

Did you know that the shell garage in wilmslow and the co-op petrol station on altrincham road also sell alcohol? Did you know that some motorway service stations also sell alcohol?

I sense this is not the real reason for your desire to have yet another planning application rejected.

I think as some people drive to the pub, we shouldn't allow pubs to sell alcohol too !!!

Wouldn't the Magnet unit make a lovely M & S. I live very close to the centre of town and fully accept that from time to time my peace will be disrupted by this proximity. If those who chose to live so close find commercial enterprise so annoying move to the countryside and then complain about the animals and their noise and smells.
This site is inappropriate for this development as we shall see when a few school kids are run over! However I assume a huge increase in business rates will be welcomed by our profligate rulers.

The petrol station was built at the same time as the adjacent apartments so owners have always been aware of the proximity. Main effects on traffic nearby since are - expansion of high school, construction of Leisure Centre, and long stay car park, and new apartments accessed via Broadway, arrival of Sainsburys in 1976 and subsequent expansion increasing traffic entering Parkway. More recently Costa Coffee etc etc. Impact on traffic from the new M&S will be minor in comparison.
Regarding alcohol sales - Tesco, The Rectory (also accessed via Broadway if using the leisure centre car park), Sainsburys, Morrisons, Texaco are all within 2 minutes or less. I would rather have M&S than yet another hand car wash or drive through MacDonalds / Burger King if BP had just sold the site.

Trevor - yes I see kids running across the A34, desperate to get into the M&S at Handforth on a daily basis.

I think you really are stretching logic now. Best just to stop digging.
