Due to the vigilance of local employees a male was arrested for passing counterfeit notes at three Wilmslow businesses and being in possession of criminal property on Friday, 15th July.

A 31-year old-male of no fixed abode was arrested and charged with three counts of passing, or attempting to pass, fake £20 notes at three locations in Wilmslow, namely Barkers, Boots and The Old Dancer Pub.

He was also charged with being in possession of criminal property, which he had successfully bought using the fake notes before the staff realised they were not genuine.

The man was remanded in custody to appear at Macclesfield Magistrates Court today.

Sgt Andy Miller said "Due to the diligence of three shop and bar staff in Wilmslow town centre we have managed to apprehend a male who was clearly intent on committing as many fraudulent transactions as possible in a short space of time.

"I am particularly pleased as it shows that by visiting a great many stores in Wilmslow, as part of operation MOSUL last month and educating staff about how to spot counterfeit notes, we have successfully arrested and charged what appears to be a prolific offender.

"I would advise all Wilmslow shops and businesses to be on the lookout for counterfeit currency and if they require further information on how to spot fake bank notes to contact Wilmslow Neighbourhood Policing Team by calling 0845 458 6374 and requesting an information pack."
