Artists to blaze a trail across Wilmslow

Plans are well underway for Wilmslow's first Art Trail which is being organised by a group of local artists and crafts people.

So far nearly 30 professional artists have agreed to take part in this new event which will see work from professional painters, print makers, furniture makers, wood turner, sculptors and textile artists displayed in 17 locations which are all walking distance from the town centre.

Venues include church halls, shops, cafes, restaurants, pubs, private galleries or studios who have volunteered their premises as a temporary gallery. One of the artists, Chris Robertshaw, a local painter, has created a beautiful map with tiny black and white line drawings showing each of the venues involved and over the weekend there will be balloons and posters to indicate where the art is on display.

The event is the brainchild of Wilmslow furniture maker Garry Olson.

Artist Eliza Brown explained "His original aim for the trail was to bring the community of Wilmslow together whilst showcasing local talent. Since the start, it has snowballed into an exciting opportunity for artists, venues and residents alike to meet, collaborate and support our community.

"For example, Wilmslow High sixth form art students are curating their own exhibition at the United Reformed Church as part of the trail, which will be a wonderful opportunity for residents to meet the talented young people of Wilmslow. In addition we have some very collectable artists involved, such as Iola Spafford who is a member of the Royal Cambrian Academy and had several exhibitions at Tib Lane Gallery, Manchester; and Liz Taylor Webb who was mentored by the late LS Lowry."

The Wilmslow Art Trail will take place on the 20th and 21st September.
