Wilmslow Town Council has agreed to provide a grant of £500 to Wilmslow Trust which will be used towards the production of a Town Trail Map.

The trail is intended to increase appreciation of the interesting old and modern buildings throughout Wilmslow, appealing to both residents and visitors. It is hoped that the map will help boost the number of visitors.

Speaking at the Wilmslow Town Council meeting on Monday, 21st July, Ray Acton of Wilmslow Trust explained "We tried to put a certain number of places on this in order to do certain things. One is to try to enable people to go on an inner town trail if they wish, an out of town trail if they want to go on that or simply to make up their own trail around Wilmslow.

"They're seeing old buildings certainly, but they're also seeing modern buildings and this is part of what Wilmslow Trust is trying to do, it's trying to make people appreciate more modern buildings in Wilmslow and what they stand for and what the design actually means. Which is why we are backing it up with a design award and we have a series of talks and visits which concentrate on architectural design.

"So it isn't a history walk, it isn't a commercial walk, it's really looking at the old and new buildings in Wilmslow centre and right out to the periphery and we hope that in covering that area we encourage to use the Carrs more and use Lindow Common more as part of those trails."

Ray added "The idea is that people will pick up this map in varies places in Wilmslow, free of charge, and will be able to plan whether they arrive at the station or whether they go to Waters or whether they arrive at the airport, they will be able to plan their own particular trip around Wilmslow and they won't just be looking at two or three streets in the centre of town."

The initial print run will be 5000 maps at a cost of £1620 which will be distributed free of charge.

Long overdue, I hope the WTC stumps up the rest of the cost too.

Good move WTC. Add some brown signs too, eg 11th Medieval Church,
Lindow Moss.
