The Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne presented the keys of a new Motability car to his constituent Rory Moss on Friday, 18th July, at TrustFord.
Rory, 54, of Wilmslow has multiple sclerosis and has leased cars with Motability since 1996. He can only walk a few paces and has little use of his left-hand-side, so he uses an electric wheelchair. His Ford Kuga has been fitted with an electric hoist to store his wheelchair.
Rory said: "Motability has been a great support to me over the years, so I am very grateful to the scheme. My car provides me with a lifeline and without it I would be completely stuck indoors, especially as my wheelchair is so bulky. Although I am unable drive anymore, my carers can drive me wherever I need to be."
Rt Hon George Osborne MP said: "It is a great pleasure to be here and present my constituent Rory with the keys to his new Motability car. I am also delighted to meet those who work for Motability and others associated to this fantastic scheme, which supports many people, like Rory, with their independence."
Lord Sterling of Plaistow GCVO CBE, Chairman of Motability, commented: "We are delighted that George Osborne could join us for this special presentation. We have supported more than three and a half million disabled people and their families with their personal mobility since 1978 and look forward to assisting many more in the decades to come."
The Motability Scheme provides affordable, convenient, trouble-free motoring to over 630,000 disabled customers and their families.
The Scheme, which is directed and overseen by a national charity Mobility, is available to anyone who receives the Higher Rate Mobility Component of Disability Living Allowance (DLA), the Enhanced Rate of the Mobility Component of Personal Independence Payment (PIP), the War Pensioners' Mobility Supplement (WPMS) or the Armed Forces Independence Payment (AFIP). Customers transfer their mobility allowance to Motability to lease or purchase a car, powered wheelchair or scooter.

Here's what readers have had to say so far. Why not add your thoughts below.
However something stick in my craw that Osborne gets involved in handing over the keys, seeing as his government has presided over the slashing of benefits for disabled people as well as cutting the criteria for disabled people to access this vital service. Must be an election looming!

All the best Rory!
Outlandish hypocrisy and shame on you Osborne!
I think the chancellor, if he stays in politics and doesn't take a well paid job in industry will rue the day he planned these historic and barbaric cuts
