Winners of the 2014 Scarecrow Festival announced

Wilmslow Dean Rotary Club is pleased to announce the results of the 2014 Wilmslow Scarecrow Festival competition for local businesses.

First prize in the business section was awarded to 'Goldie Hawthorn' created by Hawthorns Deli with 'Sea Dog Sam' by MultiYork coming second. Third place went to 'Flower Pot Man' by Steve Leyland who runs the flower stall on Grove Street and 'Fred-A-Scare' by The Old Dancer came fourth.

In announcing the winning selection, Rotary Club President, Ian Bradbury said "This has been another fantastic year for the Wilmslow Scarecrow Festival with more new businesses/organisations and now the public joining in and many combining with the Wilmslow in Bloom/Going for Gold.

"The standard of entries improves year on year which makes for a very difficult job in choosing the eventual winning selection. We hope all have enjoyed the Festival either making, showing off, scarecrow hunting or just marvelling at the inventiveness of others and thank all those who participated in some way. Here's to 2015 - even bigger and better."

When informed of her 1st Prize success, Jane Williams from Hawthorns Deli said "We are thrilled to win this year's Scarecrow Competition with our own "Goldie Hawthorn". We are always very keen to participate in community events and have also really enjoyed being part of the "Wilmslow Growing For Gold" event this summer.

"Wilmslow Dean Rotary Club adding a gold theme to this year's Scarecrow Festival in support of Incredible Edible and Wilmslow's entry into the RHS Britain In Bloom competition has made it even more fun to create our scarecrow. The annual scarecrow festival adds so much to the appearance and community feel of the town and everyone who walks past our café smiles when they see Goldie - this makes the whole event so worthwhile, especially for businesses and we look forward to taking part again in 2015!"

Really pleased that Hawthorn Deli won this. They are not part of a commercial chain and they get involved in all the local events. "Goldie" really brightened up this drab area of Wilmslow. Next year it would be good if more of the shops on Grove Street could participate.
