Handforth Brownies step back in time

2nd Handforth (St Mary's) Brownies celebrated the centenary of the Brownie movement with an open afternoon held at St Mary's Church Hall on 28th June.

Present day Rainbows, Brownies and Guides were able to try on uniforms from different eras which had been loaned from the county archives. A timeline, from 1914 to the present, was on display and grown-ups were able to add their recollections to it over coffee and cake.

The Brownies, originally known as Rosebuds, were launched in 1914 by Lord Baden-Powell, four years after the formation of the the Girl Guides. They initially came under Baden Powell's sister, Agnes, and subsequently his wife, Olave.

2nd Handforth Brownies celebrated their half-centenary in 2012.

If you have photos and memories of 2nd Handforth Brownies that you'd be willing to share, or would be interested in your daughter joining, please email [email protected].
