Youngsters learn to swim 'The Becky Way'

Britain's most successful Olympic swimmer was at Total Fitness Wilmslow on Saturday, 5th July, to officially launch her Swim Stars programme.

Olympic Gold medalist Rebecca Adlington may have retired from competition, but now she has a new goal - to teach thousands of children to swim 'The Becky Way'.

Following years of planning and development, Becky Adlington's SwimStars is now being rolled out at venues across the UK and Becky visited Total Fitness Wilmslow to see the programme brought to life.

When Becky retired from competitive swimming in 2013, she set out her vision that every child in Britain will be able to swim 25metres by the time they leave primary school.

Becky Adlington's SwimStars, which is aimed at children between 3 and a half and 11 years of age, is the first stage in delivering that vision.

The programme has been developed by Becky with some of some of Britain's leading experts in teaching children to swim, in partnership with Total Swimming.

Becky said, "Despite my retirement, my commitment to swimming is as strong as it ever was. I'm delighted that, after nearly three years of planning, my SwimStars programme is now up and running, and I look forward to rolling it out in further sites across the UK."

"The teachers involved in the programme are top class, and have further enhanced their skills and experience by completing in-depth training modules that immerse them in my key values of respect, friendship, courage and persistence. The programme gives kids the opportunity to learn to swim in a fun and safe environment."
