5   magical experience

Magical place - difficult to explain how great and different it is from any other B&B we have stayed so far. Just try it out yourself! Plenty of great restaurants in the area and good opportunities for a walk. We had a drink in the Wizard Inn and tested the tasting menu of Alderley Edge Hotel. All good.

5   An unforgettable birthday getaway

I have just been treated to an unforgettable surprise birthday getaway at Wizards Thatch. We stayed in the camelot suite and my brother-in-law was in the merlin suite. The cottages are truly magical and a credit to the dedication and endeavour of Ian (mine host) who has restored them to a magnificent standard. As soon as we arrived, we felt like we were at home, the atmosphere is so relaxing. It is a feeling I have never experienced before. The suites are warm and inviting and have been furnished to complement the age of the cottages. The lounge area in the camelot suite easily accommodated our number and created a magical ambiance as we whiled away the hours. Up a few stairs was the first bedroom which was luxurious enough to be a master suite in other establishments. At the top of the stairs, opposite a quaint, old but modern bathroom boasting the finest towels and toiletries came the icing on the cake. The master suite was an experience to behold. The enormous 4 poster bed steals the show but it is well accompanied with the other furniture and en suite facilities. All the rooms are adorned with collections of trinkets and newspaper cuttings that complement the age of the cottages. The rooms are equipped with dvd and cd player with a broad selection of films and music. For those wanting quiet, there is an amazing selection of books.

Ian is the friendliest and most welcoming host you are likely to meet. His wealth of local knowledge was extremely useful. He advised on places to dine and visit. My wife said she phoned him a number of times before our stay looking for advice on the local area and each time was impressed with his helpfulness.

All in all Wizards Thatch is SPECIAL. We have already started making arrangements to book all 3 suites - Camelot, Merlin and the Wizardry for a relaxing family getaway.

5   A perfect home away from home

Just had our stay at the Wizards Thatch for an anniversary treat. It’s hard to know what to say for a place so truly special. The minute you arrive, it feels like you have come home, and in a way you have. Ian the owner has opened his home to the public, and shares with you a piece of his life built up over the years through his career in PR/Journalism and his ties with Alderley Edge. If you are someone looking for minimalistic simplicity then this may not be the place for you. All the suites are suitably decorated with the theme of the area. Rich, lavish and luxurious furnishings everywhere you look.

We stayed in the Wizardry suite which has its own private entrance surrounded with green vines and nature. As you walk in through the porch, you step into a wonderfully cosy living room, complete with dining table, fridge (with fresh milk), kettle, toaster, toast rack, cutlery, fresh flowers, 2 very comfy sofas, 2 equally comfy armchairs, coffee table, flat screen TV, CD player, DVD & CD library and much much more. The room is filled with trinkets from over the years – Ian’s green glass bottle & ginger beer collection are stored on ceiling rails all around the room. Old books galore – a particular favourite were Lewis Carrols’ birthday book. You can have a read of newspapers from the 1930’s or just simply relax in front of the TV.

Up the winding stairs to the 2nd floor of the suite you will find a smaller bedroom with a double bed, and the main bedroom with a glorious 7 foot four poster bed. The en-suite toilet and separate bathroom (with bath & shower) were completed with gorgeous smellies, fluffy towels and fluffy bathrobes. Climb into the bed (which is one of the most comfy beds I have slept in) and you will find a flat screen TV hidden in the corner of one of the posts. If watching TV in bed is not your thing, why not pop a CD into the player on the bedside table.

The Wizards’s Thatch is the perfect place for a getaway with that special someone. It is perfectly located in the village to access the boutique shops & bars, and for a walk into the Cheshire countryside. It is clear that Ian has put his heart & soul into this place and he should be very proud of what he has created. We will definitely be returning and spreading the word.

5   Romantic Cottage!

If you have ever wondered what it might be like to live in a 400-yr-old cottage (with modern conveniences, as I am not one to milk my own cow,) this is your answer! Such conveniences, including a fresh container of milk and in our case, the champagne and Swiss chocolates included with the romantic package, are hidden behind creatively crafted cabinets, so as to not break the spell of The Wizardry suite. Low ceilings with ancient beams, wonky stairs, a giant 4-poster bed with fabrics draped at each corner, fresh flowers and lively colour pallets of gold, burgundy, and midnight blue envelope you in a cozy atmosphere. And the many books and bric-a-brac, such as antique foot warmers, as well as the fine selection of DVDs (modern and period pieces) can keep you entertained for days. We opted to go out for dinner, just to see the area, but would have been equally delighted to stay in with local take away in our jammies. Our host, Ian, is a wealth of knowledge and helped not only guide our stay in Alderley Edge but also gave us fantastic tips for the next leg of our journey. Honestly, I can't wait to get back!

5   “Insanity In Alderley Edge - Hilariously Brilliant”

Sindy & myself stayed overnight in the Camelot suite. We were up to collect a new Morgan sports car from a fellow Morgan Dealer.

We are also b&b owners and as Ian's guest reviews were as high as ours, we thought we would give it a whirl.

We were not disappointed at all - walking though the front door and into another world of make believe and fun. We thought our PitStop b&b was quirky, but this takes the crown and as for Ian, he is more ecentric than me.

Got on like a house on fire, well not quite, we did not want to catch the Thatch alight!

I asked Ian if he had been approached by the Channel 4 TV makers '4 In A Bed' to which he said "yes" but was not sure about it. I said go for it, as we did last year, winning our programme in Series 2. Thanks Ian - loved it, loved you, loved the house and loved the butler message on the answerphone. Cant wait to see you on the telly - you will blitz it.
