Wilmslow Based Bare Necessities Toiletry Bank distributed Mother's Day packs to eight schools, youth centres and women's refuges in the East Cheshire South Manchester area for children to pass on to their mums on Mothering Sunday.
Diane Smith, BN Trustee commented. "Children in poorer households are affected deeply when everyone at school is talking about Mother's day and they cannot afford to buy a little something for their own mum.
"Their mental health is negatively affected and they tend to rubbish the events because they cannot afford them. The Toiletry packs on these occasions help redress the balance."
The gifts consisted of a little pampering treat in a drawstring bag made by some of Bare Necessities' volunteers, affectionately known as the BN Sewing Bees.
Feedback from both children and parents has proved how well received this campaign is.
One local school sent in this feedback 'Hi Miss, **** told me that you were able to help him with my surprise for Mother's Day and I wanted to thank you for it. He kept saying he had a
surprise for me but I didn't think it would be something so personal and lovely.
"I wasn't sure at first how he managed to get something to give to me like that but when he explained that you had spoken to him about giving me something special for Mother's Day I wanted to share my thanks. To receive items that are luxuries nowadays with all of the other economic demands is an absolute treat and pleasure and I can't wait to use them. Thank you!"
